Putting Me First
Three days in bed with the flu was just enough to allow for introspection and research on the future of this blog. I knew what I wanted to write about, but worried about connecting with readers. Huddled under two quilts and a blanket, I read the opinions of blogging experts like Arianna Huffington and Bill Maher. Propped up on the couch, I lurked on the Forum and considered advice from experienced Today.com bloggers. When I felt well enough to sit up for chicken soup, the question was clear. Would I continue to write in third person? Or should I break through my comfort zone and write in first?
…BLOGGING…ENCOURAGES YOU TO GET YOUR THOUGHTS LINED UP IN YOUR MIND AND FORMED INTO WORDS RELATIVELY QUICKLY… Jason Linkins, Huffington Post
It took two more days of extra sleep and lots of tissues before I reached a decision. There were more blogs to read: some I admired, some I ignored, and others gave me that “aha!” moment that helped me decide: first person, it is! Putting myself into the blog seems more natural than attempting to be a neutral observer. Others could do it, why not me?
Sneezing, congestion, coughing, chills, and fever are no joy, but being sick helped me make a choice to be less conservative in this new attempt at putting words together.
The best thing about blogging is you can write as if you are a completely different person from who you actually are and nobody would be any wiser. You can practically reinvent yourself and be unrestricted and passionate about things you normally wouldn’t be. I LOVE Today and blogging. I’ve been doing it for about 5 years. I had a blog named PoconoMom, now I am savemoneymomma and theworldisbeautiful.
I pray your experience is as wonderful as mine!
